The proponents of LOVEDROGHEDA believe that the future prosperity and well being of Drogheda City is very much dependent on the ability of its people to work together. Many of the projects we are proposing are dependent on groups of people in Drogheda coming together and collaborating.

It is a proven fact that towns and cities that collaborate, are economically and socially vibrant, attract inward investment and funding, are progressive and places that people want to make home.

Many of the projects proposed will involve the BID company and rate payers working together with many organisations in Drogheda and collaborating to make the projects happen. This means conducting business in a positive, respectful and constructive manner.

In June 2021, Love Drogheda BIDS and Louth County Council worked with City Booth, a Collon based company, to construct several parklets that were then installed all over the town. Parklets are seen as a way of creating small oases of calm on busy streets and provide a place for people to stop, sit and enjoy street activities. They convert a small number of parking spaces or sections offloading bays into open public-use spaces that support local businesses by creating green areas for passers-by to sit and interact.  Love Drogheda BIDS Chairperson, Niall Kierans has this to say on the installation of the parklets; ‘The parklets have created a new sense of welcoming in the town and are an opportunity for people to meet-up in an outdoor setting. They give the clear message that Drogheda is open for business, and all are welcome.

There are currently 10 parklets located around the town.Initially used to meet the need for more outdoor meeting spaces during theCovid-19 restrictions, the parklets have proved a massive hit with businesses and members of the public alike. Love Drogheda BIDS undertake the upkeep and maintenance of the parklets along with the business partners, who are responsible for the day-to-day upkeep. Some restaurants who have parklets outside have used the parklets to grow additional herbs for use in their kitchen, ensuring that the parklets provide some much-needed greenery in the town as well as space for innovation by businesses.

The parklets were funded through a grant from the National Transport Authority and is part of a suite of funding that has been used to animate and create new seating areas inDrogheda. They were initially in place for one year in line with the Section254 Licence after which they are to be evaluated to consider whether they should be kept in place for another year. Our hope is that this initiative will help create a positive atmosphere within the town and provide attractive seating areas for visitors to the town.”
