Drogheda is the Gateway to the Boyne Valley and one of the best examples of a medieval town in Ireland. From incredible feats of engineering like the Boyne Viaduct to heritage buildings, churches and the iconic barbican Laurence’s Gate, Drogheda’s architecture would keep any tourist busy for several days. A little way from Drogheda sits the ancient monuments of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Brú na Boinne, Mellifont Abbey, the Battle of the Boyne site at Oldbridge House, Monasiterboice High Crosses and long stretches of stunning coastal beaches. Many of these heritage sites and tourist attractions were featured on lamppost banners along one of the town’s busiest streets, Shop Street, which have now been refreshed by Love Drogheda BID.
The refreshed banners display some of Drogheda and the surrounding Boyne Valleys most popular visitor destinations as well as noting how Drogheda sits in the heart of Failte Ireland’s Irelands Ancient East.
The banners were installed as part of a series of attractiveness initiatives by Love Drogheda BIDs which also included interchangeable large lamppost banners that have been used to display upcoming festivals and events and “Shop, Eat, Love and Enjoy local” messaging. Love Drogheda BID also had their most successful Flower Grant over the summer, adding dozens of floral displays and have added to the Christmas light display in town, all of which have increased the attractiveness of our town centre.
The tourist and heritage banners of Shop Street are another welcome addition, providing both information and helping to make our streets look vibrant and fresh.
Love Drogheda BID look forward to bringing more town-attractiveness initiatives to Drogheda in 2025 and beyond and working with our partners to improve the attractiveness of Drogheda and showcase our heritage and tourism offering.
