This year’s St Patrick’s Day parade theme is championing sports and sporting activities, as FAI Cup winners Drogheda United FC take to the streets as this year’s Grand Marshals in a parade themed “Drogheda 2025-The Parade of Champions” which will celebrate the towns achievements in sport, culture and history.
Last year’s parade saw almost 50,000 people line the streets of Drogheda to mark the parade’s 60th anniversary, a celebration which extended to a 4-day family festival that included fireworks, music, funfair and family entertainment. The fireworks and live music are to return to compliment this year’s parade which will also see the return of “Sensory Street” on Dominic's Street, an accessible, quieter space to allow those with sensory issues take part in the celebrations, brought about in partnership with Louth and Meath Autism Services. The Window Dressing competition will also return this year, encouraging businesses to deck out their premises in the theme of the celebrations.
The St Patrick’s Day parade is organised by volunteer group Drogheda Festivals and chairperson Sarah Taaffe is grateful for everyone who has stepped forward to help such as Louth County Council, main sponsors Wogan’s Build Centre and Love Drogheda BIDs, local emergency services, Louth volunteers and all those who either take part in the parade or show up to enjoy the spectacle. In particular, the committee remarked on the ever-growing involvement of international residents and students who embrace the spirit of the event year or year.
Love Drogheda BID are delighted to once again be one of the main sponsors of this year’s events, which brings such joy and community spirit to the town. Trevor Connolly, Love Drogheda BID CEO stated that “Love Drogheda BID are thrilled to be able to sponsor the St Patrick’s Day parade again this year. The parade and the celebrations around it keep getting bigger and bigger each year and showcases one of the best aspects of Drogheda, what can be achieved with collaboration and partnership. Volunteer groups such as Drogheda Festivals are vital to the town’s community spirit, with events such as St Patrick’s Day bringing out the very best of Drogheda residents, clubs and groups. Love Drogheda BID are very proud to support the fantastic work of the Drogheda Festivals Committee and look forward to seeing the towns sporting achievements celebrated at this year’s event.”
The event is a standout in Drogheda’s festival calendar and is the best showcase for everything that makes Drogheda special; family, community, history, music and culture while celebrating Ireland’s patron Saint. The Drogheda Festivals Committee are encouraging any groups, teams, clubs or organizations that would like to take part to request an application by emailing droghedafestivals@gmail.com
