Love Drogheda BID Calls for Renewed Community Effort Following Latest IBAL Results
Love Drogheda BID have noted the recent drop in rankings in the IBAL litter league with a number of litter black spots identified in the most recent IBAL report however there is the recognition of several pristine areas in the town. Drogheda was ranked 26th out of 40 towns and cities surveyed, and categorised as “Moderately Littered,” despite achieving seven A-listed sites that underscore the potential for excellence in cleanliness and presentation.
While the results reflect significant strengths, such as the residential area of Oaklawns, West Street, and the Car Park at Trinity Street, where a "freshly presented town centre environment" was noted, they also highlight the impact of neglected areas including the walkway along the riverfront at Wogans and AIB, was identified as a “litter blackspot,” and other sites like St. Laurence Street basements and the Bring Centre on Trinity Street were flagged as significantly littered.
“It’s clear from the results that Drogheda has the potential to rank much higher, given the high standards achieved in many areas .However, the presence of just one blackspot and two significantly littered sites dragged us down the league table,” said Sarah Taaffe, Chairperson of Love Drogheda BID.
Encouraging Shared Responsibility
Love Drogheda BID believe that maintaining a clean town is a shared responsibility. “Business owners, residents, and local authorities must work together to address problem areas proactively. A cleaner town benefits everyone by attracting visitors, supporting local businesses, and instilling community pride,” Trevor Connolly, CEO of Love Drogheda BID added.

Acknowledging Success and Moving Forward
The IBAL results also celebrate Drogheda's successes, with the Rathmullen Approach Road, Rampart Green, and Hill of Rath to Rosehall Roundabout earning high praise for their cleanliness and presentation. These areas set a benchmark for what can be achieved with consistent attention and care.
“We commend the efforts of those maintaining these A-listed sites, showing that a clean Drogheda is within reach, now, we need to work together and channel that momentum to elevate the rest of the town.”
Looking Ahead
Love Drogheda BID are committed to working closely with Louth County Council, businesses, Drogheda Tus Team, Drogheda Tidy Towns and residents to tackle litter challenges and raise the town’s ranking in future IBAL surveys.
