Love Drogheda BIDs are delighted to offer our continuous support to the Boyne Valley Trails Group, a volunteer group of dedicated and enthusiastic walking tour guides who want to share the beauty, heritage, and culture of Ireland's ancient Boyne Valley through a series of bespoke walks, trails and adventures held every month in Drogheda, Co Louth and its surrounding areas.
This year, in partnership with Love Drogheda BIDs and Fáilte Ireland, the Boyne Valley Trails group hosted their second "Boyne Valley Trails September Walking Festival"; a week-long walking event that included walks suitable for all abilities and interests. The schedule included History walks, Nordic Walking classes, Mythical Mural trails, Cooley Peninsula walks, Whiskey tours, a trip around Tara and the Myths and Legends of Brú na Boinne.
A total of sixteen walks, two "Chats and Trails" guest speaker talks with Paul Maguire and author John G O Dwyer and six evenings of entertainment in various Drogheda venues make up the extensive offering of the Festival, which ran from Monday 19th to Sunday 25th September and took in areas of Drogheda, Newgrange, Cooley and Termonfeckin.
Attended by over 400 people, the Boyne Valley Trails September Walking Festival helped to highlight just how much potential Drogheda and the Boyne Valley Region has when it comes to becoming a premier outdoor adventure and walking location. Drogheda is perfectly located to be the base for any adventurer hoping to take in the magnificent Boyne Valley Region, with so much of the areas attractions on its doorstep.
There were many highlight moments from the September Walking Festival including a staggering 85+ people walking the Boyne Valley Camino on Saturday 24th. Both Whiskey tours, Beaulieu House tours and Cooley walks were completely sold out and attendees were noted from Dublin, Armagh, Cavan, the U.K., USA, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa as well as locals from Louth and Meath across the entire festival.
We would like to thank all the guides at Boyne Valley Trails for their time and dedication in planning this September Walking Festival: Dusty, Martina, Brendan, Anthony, Des, Aine and Grainne. We would also like to thank Claire and the staff at Brú na Boinne, the family at Beaulieu House, Caoimhe for designing all our advertisements, Sarah for liaising with venues for the evening entertainment, Guest Speakers Paul Maguire and author John G O Dwyer, Jenny for all her promotional work, the folks at Outsider and Go Wild magazine for their coverage, Patrick for his maintenance of the Boyne Valley Trails website and ticketing system, as well as all local businesses and news outlets that got behind the promotion of this event.
The Boyne Valley Trails September Walking Festival 2022 was sponsored by Fáilte Ireland as part of their "Innovation Grant Pilot Scheme 2022" and supported by Love Drogheda BIDs.
